FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions for prospective students.

Admissions

Who processes my application?
The Hong Kong MBA Office, not the Belk MBA Office, initially processes applications. You can track the status of your application at the Belk International MBA Admissions Office. Contact the Hong Kong MBA Rep Office at 852-2791-1155 or the International Graduate Admissions Office at 704-687-2694 if you encounter any problems.

The secret to a timely processing of your materials is to send them early and make sure that everything is complete.

How long will the Admissions Office hold my application materials?
Incomplete applications are maintained on file for one year from the original term of application. Supporting credentials received without an application will be maintained on file in the Office of Graduate Admissions for one year. All applications for persons who are not admitted are maintained on file for one year. You should notify the Graduate Admissions Office if you plan to submit new materials for review.

What is the average GMAT score for students admitted to the MBA program?
The average GMAT score is currently ~575. The GMAT score is considered along with the prospective student's previous academic work. If a prospective student takes the GMAT more than once, the highest score will be considered.

Is work experience a requirement for admission?
Work experience is highly recommended, but is not required for admission. An MBA degree without work experience may not be given full value by potential employers. It is to your advantage to gain professional experience prior to starting any MBA program.

Will work experience make up for a weak academic record or test score?
Applications are evaluated on a number of factors, including previous academic performance, GMAT scores, work experience, and references. A weakness in one of these factors will not necessarily result in an applicant being turned down. Likewise, excelling in one factor will not guarantee admission.

Transfer Student Admission

I am a graduate student at another university. How do I transfer to UNC Charlotte?
Students from AACSB-accredited universities may transfer up to six credit hours into the MBA program at UNC Charlotte, with the permission of the MBA Director and the Dean of the Graduate School.
